Cheapest places to live for Tech Pay

Fast Forward Inc of Portland Oregon says Boston is one of the Cheapest Places to Live for those in the tech industry.

Even though 'techies' working in Boston are paid less than their counter parts in D.C. Seattle, Washington, New York and even the national average they may still have a higher standard of living. That's because those making the big bucks in those other major cities also pay big bucks to live there.

Tech grads from Universities in the Boston area may be well advised to stick around and seek employment there. The lure of high wages can have it's downside as is illustrated in the stats. Still taking upwards of $17,000 less pay per year is a tough one to swallow.

If you are thinking of moving it's an opportune time to find the Cheapest Places to Buy a Car.

Cheap things to do in Houston

I was reading through my news feed this morning and came across this interesting piece. Thought I would pass it along.

The 'Daily Cougar' which is the U of Hou student newspaper just published this article on their website about 'Cheap Things To Do in Houston'.

They are looking to help students who don't have a lot of money to get out there and enjoy loife without blowing a ton of cash.

Here are a few of their tips for Cheap Things to do:

1. Play Frisbee Golf. I didn't know this but they say there are Frisbee Golf Course set up all over Houston and most of them arre free.

2. Road Trip! Students can go to Galveston and enjoy the sand bar; play volleyball or just lie around and catch some rays.

3. Visit the Zoo. It may not be free but at $11 it's a pretty cheap way to spend your day.

4. Check out the Museum of Natural Science. Again, not free but cheap at just $7 plus at this time of year you get to see some of the rarest flowers in the world.

5. Finally with summer comes summer music. There are lots of live acts performing all over town.

Now Houston did not make our list of The Cheapest Places to Live in the U.S.A. but it does sound like a fun place to be a student!

Cheapest Places to Advertise

I was talking with a friend this morning and he was telling me about an order he was going to make for some advertising. I couldn't believe he was about to spend $500 on something that he could easily get for free. In fact the advertising he was about to do wouldn't even be as effective as the free methods.

Cheapest Places for Advertising

With the strength and popularity of the interent pf course I talking about free online advertising. It's definitely the cheapest place to advertise and what's cool about it is it is much more effective than  pretty much any other method of advertising out there.

Forget the Yellow Pages!

One of my biggest pet peaves is seeing small businesses get totally ripped off by the Yellow Pages directories. Talk about a dinosaur! Think about, the last time you needed to find a business where did you go? Yup, straight to Google, right? Small businesses and professionals shell out a ton of money to the Yellow Pages each year and if they just thought about it they would realize it's wasted money. There is only one market where it may still make just a bit of sense to be in that directory - that's if you market to seniors. Even then I question it's value.

So, where are the cheapest places to advertise? You've probably guessed by now - try Craigslist and all of those other free listing sites which are probably serving your home town.

Oh, and if you really want to have some effective 'marketing' take that money you are giving away to the Yellow Pages and hire a smart Internet Marketer to put your business at the top of your local search engine results.
