I was talking with a friend this morning and he was telling me about an order he was going to make for some advertising. I couldn't believe he was about to spend $500 on something that he could easily get for free. In fact the advertising he was about to do wouldn't even be as effective as the free methods.
Cheapest Places for Advertising
With the strength and popularity of the interent pf course I talking about free online advertising. It's definitely the cheapest place to advertise and what's cool about it is it is much more effective than pretty much any other method of advertising out there.
Forget the Yellow Pages!
One of my biggest pet peaves is seeing
small businesses get totally ripped off by the Yellow Pages directories. Talk about a dinosaur! Think about, the last time you needed to find a business where did you go? Yup, straight to Google, right? Small businesses and professionals shell out a ton of money to the Yellow Pages each year and if they just thought about it they would realize it's wasted money. There is only one market where it may still make just a bit of sense to be in that directory - that's if you market to seniors. Even then I question it's value.
So, where are the cheapest places to advertise? You've probably guessed by now - try Craigslist and all of those other free listing sites which are probably serving your home town.
Oh, and if you really want to have some effective 'marketing' take that money you are giving away to the Yellow Pages and hire a smart Internet Marketer to put your business at the top of your local search engine results.
